Role overview
The Chief Engineer is a senior management level position on a General Cargo Vessel responsible for the overall operation and maintenance of the ship's engine department. This role requires strong technical knowledge and leadership skills to manage a team of engineers. The Chief Engineer will work closely with the Captain and other senior officers to ensure the safe and efficient operation of the vessel.
The Chief Engineer's day-to-day duties include overseeing routine maintenance and repairs of engine room equipment, managing fuel consumption and optimizing vessel performance. The Chief Engineer will also be responsible for ensuring compliance with safety and environmental regulations, as well as training and supervising junior engineers. Additionally, the Chief Engineer will conduct regular inspections of engine room equipment to identify and address potential issues.

What we look for
- A valid Chief Engineer's Certificate of Competency (CoC) issued by a recognized maritime authority is required.
- At least 2 years of experience as a Chief Engineer on a similar type of vessel is necessary.
- Strong knowledge of engine room operations, maintenance, and repair is essential.
- Excellent leadership and communication skills are required to manage a team of engineers.
- A high school diploma or equivalent is required, with a degree in marine engineering or a related field preferred.
