Seaboard Marine Takes Delivery of Newest LNG Containership
US shipping company Seaboard Marine has launched its newest V-class LNG-powered containership, the Seaboard Verde. The vessel is 247.9 meters long, can carry up to 3,500 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs), and is equipped with more than 1,000 refrigerated container jacks.
It will serve ports throughout the Americas, including Moin, Costa Rica; Colon, Panama; Kingston, Jamaica; Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic; Philadelphia; and Brooklyn. The vessel is scheduled for delivery to the Taizhou Sanfu Shipyard in China in March this year, according to VesselsValue.
Seaboard Verde is the third of eight new LNG-powered vessels scheduled to join the Seaboard Marine fleet by 2025. Its sister ships, the Seaboard Voyager and the Seaboard Victory, are due for delivery in August and November 2024, respectively. The LNG-powered containerships are designed to reduce emissions, improve operational efficiency and further Seaboard Marine’s commitment to green shipping.
In addition to these new vessels, Seaboard Marine acquired Seaboard Blue in 2023, which has been converted to run on LNG and diesel.
This operation marks the world’s first conversion of a conventional diesel-powered containership to LNG-powered. Including this converted vessel, Seaboard Marine’s fleet is expected to reach 9 LNG-powered vessels by the end of 2025.
