REV Ocean Selects V.Ships To Manage The World’s Largest Research And Exploration Vessel

V.Ships, a V.Group company, has announced that it will partner with REV Ocean to provide customized ship management services for the world’s largest and most advanced research and exploration vessel, REV Ocean.

Currently stationed in Vardsøviknes, Norway, the vessel will research the entire marine ecosystem using advanced technology systems developed by Norway’s world-leading knowledge cluster. Scientists and other experts will use it in innovative research missions to find solutions to issues such as CO2 emissions, plastic pollution, and unsustainable marine fishing.

The vessel is powered by a diesel-electric engine and is equipped with an additional 3MW lithium-ion battery bank to reduce peak demand, ensuring optimal efficiency on board.

“REV Ocean’s decision to build the world’s largest vessel of its kind, using the most advanced technology and scientific equipment available, requires the support of a partner with unrivaled ship management capabilities,” said Dag Kristoffersen, Managing Director of V.Ships Norway.

“In addition to V.’s global reach and service offering, REV Ocean will benefit from the local expertise of our Norwegian office, which has close links to the Kjell Inge Røkke Group of Companies and extensive knowledge of how to operate within the guidelines set by the Norwegian Maritime Authority.”

“We are delighted to welcome REV Ocean to our fleet, not only as a research vessel but also as the world’s largest yacht, at a time when we are seeing an increase in demand for our yacht management services,” added Per Bjørnsen, Managing Director of V.Ships Leisure. “Many very large private yacht owners are looking for a global partner that combines V.’s safety culture, operating platform, global reach, and scale with our dedicated yacht management team that offers a bespoke service.”

“This exciting new partnership with REV Ocean will allow us to leverage V.’s unique expertise and experience as well as our powerful digital ship management platform.” ShipSure, contributing to important scientific research. In this way, we will maximize our positive impact on ships at the forefront of green ship technology. ”

“REV Ocean’s mission is to make a real difference to ocean health. To this end, we are working to build alliances with other leading organizations with similar goals and values, especially those committed to sustainable development and the future health of the planet,” said Nina Jensen, CEO of REV Ocean.

“V. has unparalleled experience in a range of marine sectors, which means it is perfectly positioned to handle the diversity and specialization required for REV Ocean. Its outstanding track record in maritime expeditions, including those operating in polar waters, will ensure that our ships and crews are able to handle the most challenging environments. At the same time, its digital platform will play a key role in ensuring and optimizing efficiency in all operations, using real-time, 24/7 data to support decisions and actions for every shipment.

“Together, we will ensure that the ocean continues to thrive, providing oxygen, food and jobs for future generations. After all, there is no other choice.” ”

The independent Science and Innovation Committee will evaluate and recommend the research projects carried out by REV Ocean, ensuring the highest scientific standards and quality of research on board. The vessel can accommodate 106 people, including 50 to 65 crew members (depending on the planned operations).

The vessel is equipped with advanced scientific equipment such as echo sounders and sonars for studying fish and other marine life, advanced environmental trawl sampling systems for selective capture of live biomass and surface samples, a submarine, an advanced remotely operated vehicle, and multiple onboard laboratories.

REV Ocean will sail from Vard Søviknes on 2 March 2025 to the Damen ship repair yard in Vlissingen, the Netherlands, for final yacht outfitting work before becoming fully operational in early 2027. V. will manage the vessel from December 2024, and one of the organization’s first tasks will be to find an experienced crew for this maiden voyage.

V. will manage the vessel during fitting out in the Netherlands and when the vessel becomes fully operational in early 2027.
