On April 9, 2025, MSC Cruises’ newest flagship, MSC World America, was officially named in a grand ceremony at the new MSC Miami Cruise Terminal. The event featured actress Drew Barrymore as the ship’s godmother, who performed the traditional bottle-breaking to christen the vessel. Actor Orlando Bloom also attended the ceremony, which included live entertainment, a gala dinner, and a drone and fireworks display over the Miami skyline.
During the ceremony, Bureau Veritas Marine & Offshore presented MSC World America with the Platinum Pearl Award, recognizing MSC Cruises’ 20-year commitment to health, safety, and environmental protection across its fleet. The award acknowledges the company’s adherence to international standards through a voluntary integrated certification program, including ISO certifications for marine environment, health and safety, food safety, and energy efficiency.
MSC World America is designed for high energy efficiency, exceeding the International Maritime Organization’s Energy Efficiency Design Index requirements. The ship operates on LNG and is equipped to use bio and synthetic fuels. It also features shore power connectivity, an advanced wastewater treatment system, and an onboard recycling management system.
Following the naming ceremony, guests embarked on a two-night celebratory journey to MSC’s private island in The Bahamas, Ocean Cay MSC Marine Reserve. MSC World America will begin its inaugural season sailing from PortMiami, offering alternating seven-night Eastern and Western Caribbean itineraries
