U.S Navy Deploys Largest Aircraft Carrier, USS Gerald R.Ford To Middle East As Conflict With Iran Intensifies
Operating in the Atlantic Ocean, the USS Gerald R. Ford (CVN-78) and its escort ships are headed for the U.S. Central Command area of responsibility via the Strait of Gibraltar. The carrier strike group has left the Caribbean Sea and is now moving across the Atlantic, a Navy officer told USNI News on Tuesday. In order to join the Abraham Lincoln Carrier Strike Group, which is presently conducting operations in the Arabian Sea, the carrier is traveling to the Middle East. Since the United States stepped up its naval presence in the Caribbean Sea in mid-November in preparation for a January raid on former Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro in downtown Caracas, Ford has been conducting operations there. The carrier’s role has recently been expanded to include operations in the Middle East when it embarked from Naval Station Norfolk, Virginia, in June.
