An oil-drilling support vessel capsized while under tow in the Gulf of Suez on the evening of July 1, 2025, near Ras Ghareb—roughly 300 km south of the Suez Canal. Egyptian authorities confirmed that 30 personnel were aboard the barge, named Adam Marine 12 or Admarine 12, during the incident .
Rescue crews from the Egyptian Navy, along with emergency responders, recovered four bodies and carried out a large-scale search operation. Twenty-two crew members were rescued, with four airlifted by helicopter to hospitals in Hurghada and 18 receiving medical treatment ashore. Four others remain missing .
The sinking occurred as the vessel was being towed to a new offshore drilling location near the Ashrafi platform in the Gabal el-Zeit oilfield. Authorities have initiated an investigation to determine the cause of the accident and are working to mitigate any environmental impact, although no oil spill has yet been reported
