PT Bahtera Bahari Shipyard Launches Indonesia’s First All-Electric CBG 500 E Crane

PT Bahtera Bahari Shipyard (PT BBS), based in Batam, Indonesia, has achieved a significant milestone by acquiring the country’s first all-electric CBG 500 E crane from Liebherr. Scheduled for delivery in October 2025, this advanced crane will be installed on a custom-built barge named Leo Trans 10, constructed by PT BBS itself. The crane will be operated by PT Bahtera Alam Sejahtera (PT BAS), a sister company specializing in bulk cargo logistics, particularly coal transshipment.

The CBG 500 E crane boasts a maximum outreach of 43 meters and a safe working load of 65 tonnes in grab operation, making it ideal for high-volume bulk handling. Its all-electric drive system, supported by Liebherr’s Licatronic energy recovery system and supercapacitors, ensures reduced emissions and optimized energy use. Additionally, the crane integrates Liebherr’s Master V control system, offering advanced diagnostics and future-ready automation support.

This acquisition underscores PT BBS’s commitment to innovation and sustainability in maritime operations. By integrating state-of-the-art technology, the company aims to enhance operational efficiency and set new standards in Indonesia’s maritime industry. The collaboration between PT BBS and PT BAS reflects a strategic approach to vertically integrate shipbuilding and logistics operations, positioning them at the forefront of environmentally conscious maritime solutions.
