World’s First Biomethanol-Powered Crew Transfer Vessel Enters Offshore Wind Service

In a significant advancement for sustainable maritime operations, Northern Offshore Services (N-O-S), a subsidiary of the Northern Offshore Group (NOG) and part of the NYK Group, has launched the world’s first crew transfer vessel (CTV) powered entirely by biomethanol. The vessel, named Transporter, is now operational, serving offshore wind projects in collaboration with wind turbine manufacturer Vestas.

Originally an A-class CTV, Transporter underwent a comprehensive conversion to a T-class high-speed catamaran. The vessel measures 25.35 meters in length with a beam of 7.6 meters and is equipped to carry 24 passengers. It features a forward deck area of 70 square meters and an aft deck area of 30 square meters, designed for the efficient transfer of technicians and light cargo
