The USS Nimitz Carrier Strike Group (NIMCSG), led by the aircraft carrier USS Nimitz (CVN 68), is currently operating in the Philippine Sea after completing a scheduled port visit to Guam. This deployment underscores the U.S. Navy’s commitment to maintaining a free and open Indo-Pacific region.
The strike group is engaged in day and night flight operations, demonstrating the carrier air wing’s capability to rapidly launch and recover aircraft under various conditions. These exercises are integral to supporting maritime security and ensuring combat readiness across the theater.
Rear Adm. Maximilian Clark, commander of Carrier Strike Group 11, emphasized the strategic importance of forward operations, stating, “Operating forward as a strike group hones our ability to maintain persistent and capable forces at sea, always ready to provide our leaders with a broad spectrum of military capabilities to respond to any crisis or contingency.
The NIMCSG comprises the USS Nimitz, Carrier Air Wing (CVW) 17, and Destroyer Squadron (DESRON) 9. Operating within the U.S. 7th Fleet area of responsibility, the Navy’s largest forward-deployed fleet, the group routinely collaborates with allies and partners to uphold regional stability.
This deployment follows the group’s departure from Naval Base Guam on April 21, 2025, marking a significant step in their ongoing mission to enhance regional security and demonstrate the U.S. Navy’s operational readiness.
