Full Definition
Under a bareboat (demise) charter, the owner provides only the hull. The charterer is responsible for crewing, insuring, operating, and maintaining the vessel for the charter duration — effectively becoming the disponent owner. Bareboat charters are common for newbuilding financing (sale-and-leaseback) and offshore units. The arrangement is distinct from time charter (owner provides a crewed ship) and voyage charter (owner delivers a specific cargo movement).
